Pasque Flowers
Pasque flowers ranges throughout the northern United States and up to northern Alaska. The flower is covered in silky hairs that provide insulation.
Purple Saxifrage
Another type of flower that grows in the Arctic is the Purple Saxifrage. The flower grows in a low, tight clump. It's one of the earliest to bloom! The tiny purple star-shaped flowers, which are about 1 cm wide, often can be seen above the melting snow.
Arctic Poppy
Even though these flowers are pretty, my favorite is the Arctic Poppy which grows to about 10-15 cm tall, with a single flower per stem. The flower heads follow the sun and the cup-shaped petals help absorb solar energy.
